Weight has over 40 years experience as a photographer, including documentation of the Yellow House in the 1970s. He was winner of the inaugural 2003 Citigroup Private Bank Australian Photographic Portrait Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The National Portrait Gallery acquired his collection of 101 photographs of Australian artists in December 2004, coinciding with the publication of Australian Artists: Portraits by Greg Weight. Weight’s sensitive hand-coloured interiors of Haefliger Cottage reflect his interest in artists and their environments. Weight’s residency could be seen as part of a tradition of Yellow House artists working in Hill End, including Brett Whiteley and Garry Shead.
